I sell quality birds and not the latest market driven nonsense. Across Europe in Auctions pigeons reach soaring prices and many of these go to the Far East which means it is much harder to obtain good quality pigeons for a modest price. At Europigeons.nl there are no auctions, no false bidding to get extra money out of pockets of the fanciers, for promotion reasons. I belong to the best in Holland on the Long Distance races. This way I make it easier to obtain pigeons directly from the best pigeons in Europe.

Please keep in mind that not all birds I have on stock are listed at our website. Is the pigeon or strain you are looking for not listed? Don't worry, contact me I am sure I can help you anyway...

It's very important to give you pigeons a bath at least ones a week. It will help keep the feathers in good health and give them the needed protection on a rainy race day or while training. For me its also a great indicator of the birds health and condition...

Use fresh water, I prefer clean water above any additions! I tried many and in my opinion none of them did something for the birds, so spend that money elsewhere...

Pigeons will prefer lukewarm water to cold water when taking a bath. They also like to take a bath on a rainy day. However, when they do not take a bath, it is not a preference of the water itself, quite frankly, it is a health problem. Sick pigeons or pigeons in bad condition will not take a bath, so do not look for what to put into the water, but rather analyze what is wrong with your birds.

Also, when your birds do take a bath, it is a direct indicator of form or the health status of your birds. When your birds are in super health or form, the bath water will have a thick white scum on it. It will cover the entire surface in solid white.

The willingness of your birds to take a bath and the quality of your bath water when they are finished is a barometer of the condition and health of your birds. Don't minimize this very obvious and easy sign.

Best regards,

Jan de Wijs

Many will say I am crazy but today's tip will only be believed by the ones who tried. Give you pigeons when in rest (wait till they their last flight is grow 100% after moult) at least 90% Barley.

We (my dad and me, J de Wijs & Son) are doing it for over 20 years now. As soon as the birds are ready moulting and the last flight is 100 percent fully grown we start feeding our pigeons 100% Barley with as only additional food a handful of small seeds on a extra cold winter day.

We make just one exception, the some older pigeons (10 years plus and even one that will be 21 in March). That older bids do not well on barley only.... Plus the fact that they deserve to be spoiled a bit because of what they have meant to us already.

Why? First it cleans the digestive system of the pigeons due its high concentration of fibers. Say good bye to worms on a 100% natural way! Second your birds will not get fat easy, third.... (and probably the most unbelievable one) your pigeons will start training like crazy.

Don't ask me why, but they simply will.... Our pigeons train hours and hours in Winter. Some times we wonder why we cannot keep them in the sky for so long during the racing season. Probably it's a matter of hormones they just don't feel the need to get back into the loft for whatever reason.

An other big advantage is that it easy to bring your pigeons to a higher energy level when the racing season comes closer, you just start adding 10% other racing mixture every day and your birds will get ready for pairing and / or racing.

Best regards,

Jan de Wijs
